Sánchez gets slap on wrist

Jaguares flyhalf Nicolás Sánchez has been suspended for just one week after being found guilty of dangerous play during his side's 36-24 win against the Lions.

Apart from conceding a penalty, Sánchez escaped any immediate punishment after he had recklessly leaned into Lions wing Anthony Volmink, who was airborne at the time.

The incident occurred in 38th minute of the match in Buenos Aires, with Sánchez going to score 21 of the Jaguares' points.

After the game, he was initially cited for contravening Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous Tackling, but the charge was amended to contravention of Law 10.4 (g) Dangerous charging, of which Sánchez was found guilty of an act breaching the red-card threshold.

In his finding, Judicial Committee chairman Robert Stelzner ruled the following:

'Having considered the citing commissioner’s description of the incident and the available video footage the Committee amended the charge to Law 10.4(g) Dangerous Charging and accept the player’s admission in respect of that contravention.'

'The Judicial Committee deemed the act of foul play to merit a low end entry point of two weeks. Taking into account various mitigating factors, including the player's excellent record and early guilty plea, the we e reduced the suspension to one week. The player is therefore suspended up to and including Saturday, 18 March 2017.’

Sánchez will therefore miss the Jaguares' match against the Cheetahs in Buenos Aires on Saturday.
