Cape Town Stadium to host Boks

The Springboks are likely to play a game against a World XV at Cape Town Stadium on 7 June.

Mayoral committee member for tourism, events and marketing, Grant Pascoe told Die Burger that they are in talks with Saru and WPRFU about the possibility of hosting the game.

'They have the Test at Newlands against Australia [27 September] and then they're looking at another game [in Cape Town] against a World XV at Cape Town Stadium,' said Pascoe.

WPRFU president Thelo Wakefield said they supported the idea, and spoke further to SARugbymag.co.za regarding the potential move to Cape Town Stadium.

'We'd have to find the best business model available, make sure that the WPRFU would be financially stable for the next 100 years there, and transform the stadium to deliver the same Newlands atmosphere that people love,' said Wakefield. 'There are infrustructure shortcomings to the stadium, but they would not be a problem [as there is opportunity for renovation] – it's purely down to finding a feasable business plan.'
