Alan Zondagh will not be appointed as a full-time director of rugby and is instead set to help the union out on a part-time basis.

Reports broke on Sunday that Zondagh would be hired by the Bulls to fulfil their director of rugby vacancy, with former lock Victor Matfield taking over as head coach after John Mitchell’s departure to England.

However, according to Netwerk24, Zondagh’s role will not be permanent. Instead, the former Saracens and Boland director will be used on a part-time basis. Zondagh is held in high regard by Remgro, the investment company which owns a 50% stake in the Blue Bulls Company.

Meanwhile, the Bulls are still expected to employ Matfield, but contract negotiations have delayed the official announcement. Currie Cup coach Pote Human and ex-Springbok scrumhalf Fourie du Preez are rumoured to be possible assistants.
