The Western Province Rugby board has backed Robbie Fleck and his coaching staff to ensure that the Stormers make a strong finish to the Vodacom Super Rugby season.
Following their bye this week, the Stormers currently sit bottom of the South African conference and in ninth place overall. However, they do have a game in hand over the conference-leading Sharks, and play four of their remaining five games at Newlands, where they have lost just once this season.
Having met with Robbie Fleck during last weekend, a statement was released on Saturday to confirm that the WP Rugby board of directors are backing the Stormers head coach to get the results required in the next few weeks to ensure the team is firmly in the playoff mix this season.
CEO Paul Zacks said that now is the time for all stakeholders to stand together and back the team management and players.
‘Rugby is a game of inches and there have been some frustrating results this season from the Stormers where the rub of the green has not gone our way, but we all need to give them our full support as we get closer to the playoffs.
‘We have seen some inspirational stories in the Champions League in recent weeks, with both Liverpool and Tottenham producing epic comebacks, which shows what is achievable if all stakeholders are aligned. There is no reason, with all the quality we have in our playing and coaching group, that the Stormers cannot emulate those performances this season.’
The Stormers next host the Crusaders and Highlanders before travelling to Johannesburg to take on the Lions.
