WPRFU president Thelo Wakefield says the union has entered into the final stage of negotiations with the City of Cape Town about a move to Cape Town Stadium.
In an interview with Netwerk24, Wakefield said the union’s chiefs had a successful information session about the potential stadium switch with its clubs on Monday.
‘We presented thorough analyses of both stadiums and the clubs are finally satisfied with it and share our belief that we are busy with a good thing here,’ Wakefield said.
‘To develop into a world-class union, we need world-class facilities and must provide a world-class stadium experience to our loyal supporters. We have to go with the more appealing option where we will be able to host world rugby.’
With the clubs’ endorsement, WPRFU is now free to announce the move, but Wakefield says no deal has been reached with the City yet.
‘There are still a few things we have to iron out with the City of Cape Town during the final negotiations.’
