Western Province's Polite Phiri carries against Free State WP pound Free State, Boland edge Lions

Western Province thrashed Free State 64-10 at the U13 Craven Week in Kimberley on Tuesday, while Boland beat the Golden Lions and the Blue Bulls drew with South Western Districts.

Province scored 10 tries, including one in the opening minute, to record the biggest win of the day, while the Bulls and SWD drew 12-12 in a tightly-fought and physical encounter, in which both teams scored two tries and converted one.

A try by Boland in the dying minutes earned them a narrow 22-20 victory against the Golden Lions in what proved to be a tight tussle from the outset.

The clash between the Valke and hosts Griquas was a gripping high-tempo match, but the East Randers’ superior ability to round off their attacking chances steered them to a 15-0 victory.

Eastern Province outplayed the Griffons 36-0, scoring six tries, while the Leopards bounced back from their opening-round loss with a convincing 27-0 victory against Namibia.

Border also recovered from a disappointing start to the tournament, scoring four tries to beat Namibia 20-10, the Sharks handed Limpopo their first defeat as they registered a comprehensive 34-8 victory, and Zimbabwe made better use of their opportunities to beat Border CD 13-0.

Day 2 results:

Border 20 Pumas 10
Leopards 27 Namibia 0
Sharks 34 Limpopo 8
Zimbabwe 13 Border CD 0
Eastern Province 36 Griffons 0
Valke 15 Griquas 0
Western Province 64 Free State 10
Blue Bulls 12 SWD 12
Boland 22 Golden Lions 20
