Forward dominance lifts Force

The Force’s set-piece dominance helped them achieve a 40-22 win against the Sunwolves in Tokyo, according to SARugbymag.co.za’s Opta-powered stats.

The Sunwolves led the way on attack with 578 running metres, 144 carries, 16 defenders beaten, seven clean breaks and 175 passes, while enjoying 56% of the possession.

But the Force had a 100% scrum success rate and put the Sunwolves' scrum under immense pressure throughout the game.

In the lineouts, the Force had a 90% success rate compared to the Sunwolves’ 67%. Locks Adam Coleman and Ross Haylett-Petty pinched four crucial lineouts on the Sunwolves’ throw, while the Force lost just one of theirs.

Individually, South African-born Francois van Wyk was superb for the visitors. The loosehead prop completed six tackles, beat three defenders, made a telling clean break and ran 26m.
