Damian Willemse has officially joined English Premiership title-holders Saracens on a short-term loan deal to provide injury cover during the World Cup.
Willemse, who made his comeback from a knee injury in the latter stages of the Currie Cup, missed out on selection for the Springboks’ 31-man squad for the World Cup.
The 21-year-old could still be named on the standby list should the Springboks experience any injuries in Japan and will be able to keep himself match fit by temporarily moving to London.
Willemse will provide cover for England captain Owen Farrell as well as the currently injured duo of Alex Goode and Max Malins. He will be at Allianz Park for three months.
‘We’re grateful to Western Province for allowing Damian to play his rugby at Saracens for the next three months,’ Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall said.
‘He is a young talent and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to the club.’
