The four nominees are:

VICTOR MATFIELD
The Bulls lock ruled the lineout in Dunedin with 12 takes and he produced an impressive all-round performance on defence and attack. He was active throughout the 80 minutes and looked as good as he did when he retired from international rugby in 2011.

JOHANN SADIE
The centre had a hand in three of the Cheetahs' tries against the Crusaders. He made the linebreak that would culminate in Cornal Hendricks' score in the first half. His individual brilliance sparked another try in the 52nd minute, as he chipped the Crusaders defence, regained possession, and then offloaded to keep the movement going. A clever pass to Willie le Roux in the 59th minute set up yet another try for the Cheetahs and propelled them into the lead.

S'BURA SITHOLE
The Sharks No 13 was a deserving Man of the Match at Ellis Park and it was significant that he made the tackle and won the steal that led to Lwazi Mvovo's game-breaking try. Sithole threatened the Lions' defence because he attacked the space and not the man.

BISMARCK DU PLESSIS
The Sharks captain was at the heart of his side's fine defensive performance at Ellis Park and helped to stifle the Lions at the breakdown. On several occasions, it was Du Plessis who tracked back and then picked the right moment to compete for the ball at the ruck.
