Jake White’s Toyota Verblitz beat Suntory Sungoliath 43-34 in the Japanese Top League Cup final in Chichibu on Saturday.
White’s side scored seven tries to Sungoliath’s five, with lock Jason Jenkins grabbing a brace, while Gio Aplon also got in on the act with a try of his own to help the Verblitz take a 43-27 lead in the second half.
The Sungoliath threatened a late comeback with a try that made it a nine-point game, but the Verblitz saw the game out to claim the Cup.
The Kobe Steelers claimed the Japanese league title in December last year.
