Flyhalf Handré Pollard has warned opposition teams about conceding penalties as his Springbok teammate Frans Steyn can still kick at goal from ’60m out’.
Steyn, who was recently brought back into the Springbok set-up, floored the All Blacks in the final Rugby Championship Test in 2009 when he knocked over three long-range penalties to help South Africa clinch the title in dramatic fashion.
On Saturday, Steyn will front the All Blacks again after being named on the Boks’ bench for the game in Wellington.
Addressing the media at a conference on Wednesday, Pollard said that Steyn is possibly even a better player now than he was 10 years ago.
‘Frans is such a great guy. He’s got so much experience, he’s not that old compared to some of the old guys in our team,’ Pollard explained.
‘It’s great having Frans here. He’s such a great team man, he tries to help out wherever he can. He’s such a versatile player, he can also do anything from 10 to 15.’
