England coach Eddie Jones has issued an apology after a bizarre race-related answer to a journalist’s question ahead of the team’s Six Nations clash with Ireland this weekend.
Having spoken before last year’s World Cup about ‘breathing exercises’ and ‘mindfulness’ as part of preparation plans, a journalist asked him about the subject of meditation.
However, he glibly responded: ‘I don’t think I’ve ever spoken about meditation. You must be thinking about someone else … maybe another half-Asian person … maybe we all look the same.’
Jones is said to have quickly sought to apologise to the journalist, while a spokesperson released the following statement: ‘Eddie made an off-the-cuff comment during the press conference which was not intended to cause any offence.
‘He has subsequently spoken to the journalist privately explaining this and apologized, which was accepted.’
