Tolu Latu will be allowed to continue playing for the Waratahs, despite facing potential jail time after pleading guilty to a drunk-driving charge this week.
Latu was caught in a drunk-driving incident on the eve of the Waratahs’ match against the Reds, but still played in that match because he failed to inform his bosses before it became public. He was later stood down by the Waratahs and released from the Wallabies’ training squad.
Latu – who had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.135 when he was nabbed – appeared in court on Thursday, and pleaded guilty to both charges of drink driving and driving on a suspended licence.
The Waratahs have said that he will be available for selection after showing remorse for his actions.
‘We have taken into account the steps that Tolu has taken in recent weeks to address his actions and behaviours, and acknowledge his time served on the sidelines,’ NSW chief Andrew Hore said.
‘While he is still subject to potential code of conduct processes pending the outcome of his sentencing, Tolu will be available for selection for the NSW Waratahs until such time.’
Latu has been named on the bench for Saturday’s match against the Brumbies.
