Former Springbok loose forward Pedrie Wannenburg will move into coaching after retiring from rugby.

Wannenburg earned 20 Test caps for the Springboks from 2002 to 2007, while winning three Super Rugby titles and five Currie Cups with the Bulls.

He then had a successful two-year stay with Ulster in Ireland before stints with Castres and Oyonnax in France.

Wannenburg played one last season of rugby, for the Austin Elite in the inaugural season of Major League Rugby, before confirming his retirement on Twitter on Monday.

It is sad for me to call it a day on my playing career. The life that rugby has given me has been just amazing.I am definitely not done with rugby.
I’ve always said one thing I will never do is https://t.co/5SWV1jaETm I am doing that and loving every minute of it. New challenges! pic.twitter.com/0Jfjg6gTTb

In the latest issue of SA Rugby magazine, Wannenburg talks about his last season of rugby and his coaching plans.

‘I always said there were a couple of things in life I wouldn’t do and coaching was one of them. But I’m enjoying it. It is not just about coaching people on the field, but also off the field, which is a very important role.’
