Michael Cheika’s conduct during Australia’s 30-6 defeat to England at Twickenham on Saturday is set to come under investigation by World Rugby.
The Wallabies head coach was clearly infuriated by a number of refereeing decisions, while he twice came down from the coaches box to remonstrate with officials on the touchline.
At one point, it appeared he had mouthed ‘f***ing genius’ when a call from referee Ben O’Keeffe went against his side, while Cheika was angered during a post-match interview when it was suggested that he had in fact said “f***ing cheat’.
Jon Davis, who is the disciplinary officer for the autumn internationals, will now look into Cheika’s behaviour on Saturday.
‘Following various media reports and a referral from World Rugby, the comments and conduct attributed to Michael Cheika are being investigated. An update will be issued tomorrow [Tuesday],’ a statement read.
