Wales beat Argentina 30-12 in Sante Fe on Saturday to claim a 2-0 series whitewash. MARIETTE ADAMS reports.
It wasn’t the best game in terms of quality, but Wales were full value for their victory, with flyhalf Rhys Patchell contributing 20 points via five penalties and a conversion.
Argentina again flattered to deceive. They were static on attack and while they were slightly better on defence, their ill-discipline allowed Patchell to flourish with the boot.
The No 10 kicked two early penalty goals before Josh Adams scored a brilliant solo effort to extend the lead. Receiving the ball outside the 22, the winger weaved his way past several defenders to score.
Patchell then added two more penalties to make it 19-0, before Argentina finally scored just before half-time when Bautista Delguy benefited from Guido Petti’s scintillating midfield break to touch down.
However, Argentina carried their poor discipline into the second half and Patchell continued to punish them with two more successful penalties.
The game was then killed off when Hallam Amos, who linked up beautifully with George North down the left flank, dotted down.
The match ended on a sour note when Wales No 8 Ross Moriarty was given a straight red card for foul play in stoppage time. With the man-over advantage, Argentina hooker Julian Montoya powered over from close range.
