Wales prop cops heavy ban

Wales prop Tomas Francis has been suspended for eight weeks for making contact with the eyes of England's Dan Cole this past weekend.

Francis was cited by an independent citing commissioner after Wales' 25-21 defeat against England at Twickenham.

After considering all the evidence, including video footage, the disciplinary committee consisting of Pat Barriscale, Jean-Philippe Lachaume and George Spotswood, found that Francis had recklessly made contact with the eye or eye area of an opponent, which had been worthy of a red card.

The panel was then required to consider aggravating and mitigating factors, which it did before concluding that the appropriate sanction would be a playing suspension of eight weeks.

Francis, who plays for the Exeter Chiefs in the English Premiership, is free to return to action on 9 May.
