Wales are set to officially top the World Rugby rankings for the first time in their history after beating England 13-6 on Saturday in Cardiff.
The new rankings will be made official on Monday, with the latest victory for Wales set to end almost a decade at the summit for World Cup-holders New Zealand, despite the fact that the All Blacks claimed a resounding win over the Wallabies.
Last weekend, Wales moved temporarily to the top of the rankings, before suffering a defeat by England, with Welsh flyhalf Dan Biggar admitting that it had affected their performance.
‘I think we probably got a bit caught up in all that last weekend,’ he commented.
This time around, Wales went into Saturday’s game knowing a win by any margin over England would have them move to No 1, and this time they made no mistake.
Wales will now head to Turkey for another pre-World Cup training camp, before back-to-back fixtures with Ireland on 31 August and 7 September concluding their warm-ups.
