Lions utility forward Ruan Vermaak has signed a deal to join Japanese club NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes.
The 22-year-old, who plays lock, flank and No 8, has been in the Lions junior system from U13 level. He joined the senior ranks in 2018 and finally made his Vodacom Super Rugby debut last season.
To date, Vermaak made eight Vodacom Super Rugby appearances and also represented SA Schools and the Junior Springboks.
On Friday, his management agency confirmed Vermaak’s Lions exit in favour of a move to the Red Hurricanes, where he will play under head coach Johan Ackermann.
