Francois Venter has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Worcester Warriors to keep him in the Premiership until 2022.

The 28-year-old, who last played for the Springboks in December 2017, moved to Worcester from the Cheetahs in 2018.

Since joining the Warriors, he has made 29 appearances and scored 10 tries. His contract was set to expire next year.

‘I have bought into the future of the club and hopefully we can be a sustainable top-six Premiership side,’ Venter said. ‘I also like security, so extending my contract gives me that. I enjoy the vibe around the club and the lads we have in the squad, so for me it was a no-brainer.’

‘At the start of this season I struggled a little bit with injury but it’s good to be back playing again and getting opportunities. We have started well in the Premiership and hopefully we can carry that on.’

Venter is the latest Worcester player to have signed a new deal, with flank Ted Hill and lock Andrew Kitchener also signing extensions.

‘He is a quality player with international experience who, with his direct, physical style and superb skill set, adds huge value to the team,’ Warriors director of rugby Alan Solomons said.

‘In addition he is a first-class bloke and a terrific team man. I look forward to continue working with him.’
