Venter commits to Azzurri

Brendan Venter has signed a deal to stay on as Italy's defence coach through to the next World Cup.

Venter worked as a defensive consultant during Italy's end-of-year Tests last November and was part of the coaching staff when they claimed a historic first-ever victory over the Springboks.

While Venter's role was set to be a short-term deal, the Italy Rugby Federation have been impressed with his work, which led to a three-year contract extension for the former Bok.

'I played and worked with Brendan at London Irish in the past and I believe that this agreement is the best it can be, for us and for him,' said Italy coach Conor O'Shea. 'Brendan has had a great impact on the group.'

'We are excited to be working with him for years to come. He's a coach respected by the whole international rugby scene and we are proud that he wants to join our project with Italy until the next World Cup,' added O'Connor.
