The remainder of the Varsity Cup fixtures have been confirmed, which will include a day of action at the Cape Town Stadium on Easter Monday.
The competition resumed this past Monday, three weeks after student protests disrupted the Shimlas and NMMU match in Bloemfontein. The final rounds are now set to be played at neutral venues, which include Soccer City, Rand Stadium, Cape Town Stadium and Wanderers Rugby Club.
'We are excited about the full day of rugby action which will take place at the iconic Cape Town Stadium on 28 March, falling on Easter Monday,' Varsity Cup CEO Duitser Bosman confirmed on Wednesday. 'Fans from across Cape Town are in for a feast of rugby entertainment, including two north versus south derbies taking place between Maties and UJ, and Ikeys and Tuks.
'Another highlight is the repeat of last year’s Varsity Cup final when Pukke face Shimlas, with these two teams enjoying a 70-year-old rugby rivalry. Three of the matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport 1.'
The Varsity Cup fixtures have been adjusted to include match days on 21, 24 and 28 March, with Varsity Shield, Young Guns and Koshuis Rugby matches taking place on 19, 21, 24, 26 and 28 March.
