South Africa-born Hurricanes wing Kobus van Wyk has been cited for alleged foul play during Saturday’s Super Rugby Aotearoa clash.
Van Wyk is alleged to have contravened 9.18: A player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body make contact with the ground, during the match between the Hurricanes and Chiefs at Sky Stadium in Wellington.
The referee for the match, James Doleman, issued a yellow card for the incident, which occurred in the 36th minute.
Upon further review of the match footage, the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.
The case is to be considered in the first instance by the Sanzaar Foul Play Review Committee, which will take place on Monday 10 August.
For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the Foul Play Review Committee.
