Western Province flank Kobus van Dyk says they need to limit the amount of space Hacjivah Dayimani gets on Saturday.
After their bye last weekend, Western Province are fourth on the log after playing just two games. They will travel to Ellis Park for a match against the Lions that could go a long way in deciding who finishes top of the table.
Dayimani, the Lions flank, has been an outstanding performer recently, but Van Dyk says they have a good idea of how they can limit his influence.
‘He likes to run a lot with the ball, especially in the wider channels,’ Van Dyk told reporters on Monday. ‘So if you put a few big hits on him at the beginning of the match and put him under pressure, then he won’t want to carry as much.
‘He wants space and if you take that away, he won’t have as big an influence on the match.’
Despite the team losing their own powerhouse loose forward in Sikhumbuzo Notshe to the Springboks, Van Dyk says the Province loose trio still has a nice balance to it.
‘You need different types of loosies in rugby,’ Van Dyk added. ‘In our set-up, Trokkie [No 8 Juarno Augustus] gives us a lot of go forward and I try to complement that.’
