Two members of Uruguay’s World Cup squad were involved in a fight in a Japanese restaurant during a drinking session after their exit from the tournament.
According to Kyodo News, the incident took place in a restaurant in Kamamoto in the early hours of Monday morning as a group of players were on a night out following their loss to Wales on Sunday.
Two of the players tackled a male staff member, leaving him with a minor back injury. Reports also suggest that several players caused property damage to the restaurant’s walls and mirrors and spilled drinks on DJ equipment.
Police are investigating the incident and questioned the players involved before they returned to Uruguay with the rest of the team.
