In the latest addition to our new series, CRAIG LEWIS identifies fleet-footed centre Adi Jacobs as one of the most underrated Springboks.
As we continue to reflect on the careers of those Springboks who were perhaps deserving of more international exposure, Jacobs is one of those players who certainly comes to mind.

The diminutive but dynamic midfielder falls into the rare category of someone who earned his first Springbok cap while playing for the unfashionable Falcons in the lower echelons of SA rugby.
Jacobs earned 10 Tests caps over 2001 and 2002, but his final appearance came as a substitute in the historic 53-3 loss to England at Twickenham.
He did not feature for the Springboks again for another six years, but in his late 20s he discovered some of his best form – reminding everyone of his immense capabalities.
Jacobs started 11 Tests as the first-choice outside centre in 2018 – receiving firm backing by former coach Peter de Villiers – while he also wore the No 13 jersey in the two famous victories over the British & Irish Lions in 2009.
Hampered by injuries late in his career, Jacobs retired from all rugby in 2012 with 34 Tests to his name, having been nominated in the SA Rugby Player of the Year category in 2008.
