Unbeaten Blitzboks into quarters

The Blitzboks progressed to the Cup quarter-finals of the Singapore Sevens after beating Scotland, Russia and Kenya on Saturday.

The Blitzboks started strongly by brushing aside Scotland 33-0, courtesy of tries by Seabelo Senatla (two), Cecil Afrika, Kwagga Smith and Tim Agaba.

Against Russia, the Blitzboks had to dig deep for a come-from-behind 21-10 victory. The Russians dominated the early exchanges of the contest and were rewarded with a try when Vladislav Sozonov breached the Blitzboks defence for a five-point lead at the break.

Soon after the restart, the youngster doubled his team's advantage with a second try which put South Africa in a spot of bother. But the reinforcements off the bench sparked the Blitzboks into action. Senatla stretched the Russia defence on the outside, before popping the ball inside to Branco du Preez who did the rest.

Replacement Kwagga Smith followed that up with a brace of tries in the space of a minute to complete the Blitzboks comeback.

In their final Pool C match against African neighbours Kenya, the Blitzboks had a slightly easier, though less action-packed, outing.

Kenya never really looked like troubling South Africa, who weren't at their attacking best themselves. A converted try either side on the interval by Senatla earned the Blitzboks a 14-0 victory and safe passage through to the quarter-finals.
