UKZN beat TUT 63-30 in round four of the Varsity Shield, while Wits won 37-8 against Fort Hare.
The Impi opened the scoring in Pretoria through lock Jean Droste, with flyhalf Curwin Bosch adding the extras. The hosts hit back with two tries before the visitors scored their second as TUT took a 25-18 lead into the break.
However, a resurgent UKZN side ran in six unanswered tries in the second half to retain their spot at the top of the Varsity Shield log.
In Alice, a strong Wits side ran in five tries to claim their second win from three matches and take second place on the table. The visitors led 29-8 at the break and scored another try in the second half as they handed Fort Hare their third straight defeat in 2016.
