Tuks condemned UJ to their second defeat in as many weeks with a 40-19 victory in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Due to load-shedding on Monday, the game was postponed and played a day later behind closed doors.
A competitive first half saw Tuks go into the break 14-10 ahead, thanks to an opening try from Wian van Niekerk and then Frederick Potgieter’s first of the day. UJ responded through a score from lock Khanya Ncusane and a Jeanluc Cilliers penalty.
However, the second half was completely one-sided as Tuks very quickly made it 35-10, with Potgieter going over for his second of the afternoon after centre Enrich Cronje and substitute Johanes Eloff also dotted down.
Mercurial flyhalf Tinus de Beer then got in on the action by crossing for a try of his own as the scoreline started to get ugly, and it seemed as if Tuks were set to post a half-century. But UJ managed to score a consolation try as fullback Odwa Nkunjana put a little bit of respect on the scoreboard.
The win will come as a boost for the young Tuks team, who have joined defending champions Maties by winning their first two games of the season.
