WPRFU president Zelt Marais reportedly wants Paul Treu to replace Gert Smal as the union’s director of rugby.
Treu, a former Blitzboks head coach, was an assistant coach with the Stormers last year. He clashed with fellow assistant Paul Feeney and stormed out of a Stormers review meeting.
Treu submitted a 26-page document detailing his grievances to the union’s board. It contained instances of unfair treatment that he believes he was subjected to. However, an independent investigation cleared WP Rugby of any wrongdoing.
While Treu’s future at the union still has to be confirmed, Rapport newspaper claims Marais – who was elected WPRFU president last November – would like Treu to be promoted to director of rugby.
Smal’s contract with WP Rugby ends in October and no discussions have been led with him about his future.
Rapport says the Marais camp also wants to get former Bok coach Peter de Villiers involved with the union.
