Toulouse beat Stade Français to stay top

Toulouse claimed a 28-9 bonus-point victory over Stade Français, while there were also Top 14 wins for Clermont, Montpellier, Racing 92, Pau, Castres and Toulon.

In the final fixture of the round Toulouse took their unbeaten run to 12 games.They stay six points clear of Clermont.

The visitors stormed into an early 12-0 lead, thanks to tries from No 8 Gillian Galan and wing Lucas Tauzin, but were then pinned back as they lost flank Rynhardt Elstadt to a yellow card, with Stade flyhalf Nicolás Sánchez nailing three penalties to make it a three-point game at the break.

The second half was closely contested as Toulouse flyhalf Zack Holmes kicked two penalties for the only points of the third quarter.

Toulouse scrumhalf Piula Faasalele then darted over for their third try, and with just three minutes to go, the visitors scored a terrific try from wing Matthis Lebel.

Meanwhile, Bismarck du Plessis, Frans Steyn and Henry Immelman all scored tries to help Montpellier end a bad run with a 37-10 win over Bordeaux-Begles.

Vern Cotter’s men came into the match under pressure after four successive losses, including one against Perpignan, but put together one of their most complete performances of the season to claim all five log points.

Du Plessis scored the only try of the first half, while Steyn scored early in the second, and Immelman went over just before full time to add to tries from Nemani Nadolo and Gabriel Ngandebe.

In other results, Clermont hammered Grenoble 52-17 to stay in the race for first place, Racing 92 put in an equally impressive performance to run out 50-14 victors against La Rochelle, Pau beat Agen 27-17, Castres boosted their playoff hopes with a 23-15 win at Lyon and Toulon won their second successive match, against Perpignan 24-11.
