Utility back Matt Toomua will be available for the Wallabies’ Rugby Championship campaign after joining the Rebels.
Toomua has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Rebels after spending the past two years with the Leicester Tigers.
However, the 33-Test playmaker will return to the Tigers after his Rugby Championship commitments and see out the last season on his contract at Welford Road.
He will then link up with the Rebels midway through the 2019 season, and be firmly in Michael Cheika’s plans for the World Cup in Japan.
The 28-year-old will start training with the Wallabies in the week leading up to their first Bledisloe Cup Test against the All Blacks on 18 August.
