Former Highlanders captain and current Tonga international Nasi Manu will undergo chemotherapy after he was diagnosed with a form of urological cancer.
The 30-year-old now plies his trade in Italy for Treviso, but has been out of action for the last few months.
It has since been confirmed that he had undergone surgery in August to remove an abnormal growth.
He was discharged following the removal of a tumour, but earlier this week, a set of routine medical checks and blood tests highlighted the need to start a chemo cycle.
Manu made his Test debut for Tonga against Georgia in June earlier this year.
Thankyou to everyone for the messages of support. Definitely has put a lot of things into perspective. Still a bit of a road to recovery but got the best Italy ?? has to offer and I will make a full recovery I’m sure of it! Don’t be embarrassed, check your balls! #BallOut ? https://t.co/KYTxVCGA2D
