DYLAN JACK looks back at the third round of the Varsity Cup and picks three players who stood out during Monday’s action.
Lundi Msenge (UWC)
If nobody had really heard of Msenge before this season started, they certainly will know his name by now.
The wing lit up the Cape derby against UCT with two point-of-origin tries in the second half of the match, bringing his side within inches of a remarkable comeback.
His second try was the pick of the lot as he collected the ball inside his own 22 and went on a blistering run which brought flashbacks of Fijian flier Rupeni Caucaunibuca.

If UWC are too make a run for the playoffs, Msenge is certainly a player who has shown that he can bag a few more tries along the way.

Anton du Toit (Maties)
A far more well-known name in the Varsity Cup circles, Du Toit experienced a breakthrough season in 2019 as he helped Maties through to the final, where they successfully defended their title.
In his second season with Maties, the younger brother of Springbok flank Pieter-Steph looks set to pick up where he left off last year.
The fullback showcased his immense potential against CUT, as he scored four tries – one of them a point-of-origin try – to see Maties demolish their opponents at the Danie Craven Stadium.
As a medical student, it may be a while until Du Toit can join his older brothers at the Stormers – if indeed he wants to head that way.
Theo Boshoff (UP-Tuks)
A player who already showed plenty of BMT in the first two rounds, Boshoff was at it again as he kept his cool to ensure Tuks secured a comeback victory over UJ in Pretoria.
After fullback Lionel April scored a try after the full-time hooter to level the scores at 24-24, the flyhalf was composed enough to slot the conversion and put Tuks ahead.
Having taken the mantle from the experienced Tinus de Beer, there is plenty of pressure on Boshoff to keep UP going forward this season, but he keeps delivering in the big moments for his side.
