The delay in the appointment of the new Springbok coach will be on the agenda when 12 of the 14 provincial union presidents meet in Johannesburg on Thursday.
While SA Rugby high-performance general manager Rassie Erasmus has emerged as a leading candidate to take over the reins from Heyneke Meyer, possibly on an interim basis, Allister Coetzee remains a contender.
According to Netwerk24.com, SA Rugby president Oregan Hoskins sent out an email to committee members to tell them to add Coetzee's name to the candidates list if they feel he is the best man for the job.
Once the executive committee has made their recommendation, the final appointment will then need to be ratified by the general council when they next meet at the end of March.
Besides discussing the progress of appointing the next Bok coach, it’s also believed that various matters affecting the image of SA Rugby will be addressed at Thursday’s informal meeting.
For one, SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux is currently at the centre of ongoing allegations related to his time as chairman of the Maties Rugby Club, a saga that is reported to have caused a split in the leadership and disrupted the process of appointing the new Bok coach.
