Veteran scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius has announced his retirement from all rugby with immediate effect.
The 36-year-old, fondly referred to as ‘Super Sarel’, had last played for the Kings in the PRO14 but his contract recently expired and together with his family he decided to call time on his career.
Over his illustrious 15-year senior career, Pretorius turned out for the Falcons, Griquas, Cheetahs, Waratahs (Australia), Dragons (Wales) and Kings. He also represented the Emerging Springboks side and the Barbarians.
Pretorius has since left Port Elizabeth to return to Bloemfontein where he has already started working for an insurance company. But he told Netwerk24.com that rugby will always be his passion.
‘Rugby will remain my passion, so ideally I’d love to get involved in coaching. It’s difficult [to make plans] during lockdown, but who knows that the future holds,’ he said.
