Lions boss Rudolf Straeuli has ruled himself out of contention for the vacant Bulls CEO job.
Straeuli’s name was on the shortlist to replace Barend van Graan as CEO of the Blue Bulls Company. But on Tuesday, the 55-year-old ended the growing speculation regarding his future when he announced he is staying on as Lions CEO and did not even consider taking the Bulls job.
‘I didn’t even go to the interview,’ Straeuli told Netwerk24. ‘It’s a big honour that the Bulls showed interest in me, but the fact is I didn’t apply for the position. They approached me and I said no.
‘It would have been a slap in the face of the other candidates if I showed up out of the blue. They are all people who applied for the post because they want it. They all put in a lot of effort in their presentations and if I had to come in from the side, it wouldn’t have been fair on them.
‘My loyalties lie at Ellis Park. I have a lot of unfinished business at this union and it is my goal to build the Lions brand further. I can’t turn my back on the Lions.’
