A winning return of one from three, but it’s the one I banked on that ensured a financial winning weekend, The Money Man.

I’ve had more lucrative returns than last weekend’s second round of Vodacom Super Rugby, but my banker (Stormers to beat Blues by 6.5 points or more) netted me more than the losses in relation to the Brumbies and Reds matches respectively.

The margins are fine in the betting game, as shown by the Chiefs' two-point win against the Brumbies. Another penalty and I’d have been in the money, but the finer the margin the greater the adrenaline.

It’s a patience game over the next three weeks as the form guide only starts to show after a month. Unlike the rugby journalists I don’t have to call every game, which in the early part of the tournament can only be hit and miss.

I will teach you how to bet against the spread, which simply means the teams that have been handicapped by the bookies and the pick should be a toin coss.

If you followed my advice last week you would have made money, despite the fact that I went three-four against the spread.

SARugbymag.co.za has given me R5,000 for the tournament, with the net gain going to a charity of my choice. After week one the balance is R5,150. It's a slow start but as the form guide settles so will the net margins in my balance.

– R250 on the Chiefs to beat the Brumbies by 4.5 points or more: Chiefs won by two, so I lost.

– R100 on the Force to win outright against the Reds. The Reds won, so I lost.

– R500 on the Stormers to win by 6.5 points or more. The Stormers won by 11, giving me a small profit for the weekend.
