WP director of rugby Gert Smal has met with Pieter-Steph du Toit about a possible move to Cape Town.

The 22-year-old lock's two-year contract extension with the Sharks ends on 30 June.

'They gave me permission to talk to him,' Smal told EWN Sport. 'I had a sit-down with him and talked to him, so hopefully he makes the right decision to come to Cape Town.'

Meanwhile, Smal said he would be meeting with captain Duane Vermeulen, who travelled to Toulon during the week of the Stormers' play-off qualifier without informing WP Rugby.

'We're all very disappointed in the way that he did it. Especially because he’s a senior player and he’s the captain. I will sit down with him as quickly as possible just to find out exactly how he thought about the process. It’s definitely not the kind of culture we want to create at Western Province.'
