Stade Français lock Hendre Stassen is set to be sacked by the French club after testing positive for a banned substance during a random screening.
According to a statement made by Stade, Stassen was suspended by the French anti-doping agency on 10 July after undergoing a test following a Top 14 match against Montpellier on 19 May.
A report by Midi Olympique states that the 21-year-old asked that a B-sample be tested. A result is expected in the coming days.
If found positive, L’Equipe reports that Stassen could face a four-year ban which would leave Stade with no choice but to terminate his contract.
Stassen only joined Stade on an initial loan from the Vodacom Bulls in 2018, made permanent this year, and has made 18 appearances for Heyneke Meyer’s side to date.
Last month, Stassen found himself in hot water after allegedly assaulting a dentist during a night out in Pretoria.
