Outgoing Munster and Ireland forward CJ Stander has been named an Honorary Limerick Man at the Limerick Person of the Year awards on Thursday.

A resident of Limerick since joining Munster in 2012, Stander had previously been made an Honorary International Ambassador for Limerick in 2017.

Accepting the award, CJ said: ‘It is a big honour for me and my family. It has been a big, big pleasure living in a lovely city like Limerick.

‘Thanks to everyone who made us welcome since day one and thank you for all the support you have given me personally and, secondly, as a team with Munster.’

Stander scored 42 tries in 153 appearances for Munster and was named the club’s Player of the Year a record three times.

The 31-year-old, who also earned 51 caps for Ireland since making his Test debut in 2016, will retire at the end of the season and is expected to return home to South Africa.
