NZ site gives Boks no chance

A top New Zealand website has given the Springboks little chance of winning their quarter-final and almost no chance of adding a third World Cup title.

That’s after round one and according to their power rankings.

The Springboks loss to the All Blacks, themselves gunning for a third World Cup title in a row, has put the 1995 and 2007 champions in line for a last-eight showdown against Ireland.

And Stuff.co.nz aren’t given the South Africans much hope of winning that one. No … the Boks are tipped at just 33% to make the final or a 1/3 chance in getting past Ireland.

The chances of the Springboks winning their semi-final clash are just 14%.

Given the way the site’s power rankings work, it would take a herculean effort for the men in green and gold to sneak that win and ensure a rematch against the All Blacks. The defending champions are fancied at having a 39% chance of lifting the Webb Ellis trophy with the Boks outsiders at just 3%, down in sixth place behind Wales and Australia.

Ireland are second favourites at 20%, just one percentage point better than England.
