The second Test match between the Springboks and Georgia is now likely to be called off amid suspicions of positive Covid-19 cases in the Georgian squad.

The second of two Tests, scheduled for Friday at Ellis Park, had already been thrown into doubt after Springbok lock Lood de Jager returned a positive Covid-19 test. Due to his close contact with a number of squad members, the entire group has gone into isolation.

The entire team and management had PCR tests again on Tuesday morning, and will remain in isolation until the results and subsequent recommendations are received from the Medical Advisory Group (MAG).

Now, however, it appears that there could be a Covid-19 outbreak within the Georgian camp. Georgia cancelled their planned media activities on Tuesday at late notice.

It is understood that Georgia is waiting on their latest PCR testing results, leaving Friday’s fixture in major doubt. It has been reported that there have been discussions about postponing the fixture, but cancelling it entirely is also an option.

The Test match was set to provide the Springboks with the opportunity to blood most of the European-based 2019 World Cup winners, including Faf de Klerk and Cheslin Kolbe, before the British & Irish Lions series.
