Dobson: Son of Bok legend boasts ‘star’ potential
Mark Alexander, president of SA Rugby, will announce the Springbok squad for the Castle Lager Lions Series on Saturday, 5 June during a live broadcast on SuperSport starting from 6pm.
The naming of the squad for the Tests against Georgia as well as the Castle Lager Lions series will commence at 6:30pm, followed by an in-studio panel discussion featuring SA Rugby director of rugby Rassie Erasmus, Bok coach Jacques Nienaber, members of the Springbok coaching staff and selected players.
Erasmus and Nienaber have stated that the squad announced on Saturday will consist of 45 players – 14 more than the one that went to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
The 45-man squad will contest the two Tests against Georgia (2 and 9 July as well as the SA ‘A’ match against the British & Irish Lions on 14 July) before being trimmed down ahead of the three-Test series against the Lions.
The Springbok coaches have indicated that, barring the three players who retired after the World Cup, the group that travelled to Japan in 2019 will be in the selection mix.
While locks Lood de Jager, RG Snyman and fullback Warrick Gelant are all injury concerns for the Springbok selectors, the indication is that if they are fit, they are likely to be included.
