Cheetahs speedster Rosko Specman is reportedly no longer in the frame to play for the Blitzboks during the Tokyo Olympic Games as he closes in on a Springbok call-up.
According to Netwerk24, Specman – along with Cheetahs teammate Frans Steyn – was part of one of the recent Springbok alignment camps in Bloemfontein.
The 31-year-old was a key member of the Springbok Sevens team that claimed a bronze medal in the previous Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Specman has been in excellent form since focusing on fifteens rugby, lighting up Super Rugby for the Bulls before he moved to the Cheetahs last year.
However, given that he was part of the Springbok alignment camp, it is possible that he could be called up to the squad for the upcoming British & Irish Lions series in July and August.
This would mean that he would miss the Tokyo Olympic Games, which is scheduled to start on 23 July after being postponed last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the report, good news for the Blitzboks is that they could be boosted by the return of Dylan Sage, who has been playing in the French second division for the past few months.
