Snyman, who ruptured his ACL last August only minutes into his Munster debut, has now progressed to the final stages of his rehab. According to the club the the big second rower will be ‘reviewed for a possible return to squad training next week’.
Speaking before his side’s opening Rainbow Cup clash with rivals Leinster on Saturday, Rowntree was glad to see Snyman in the final stages of his recovery.
‘He’s not got any smaller, that’s for sure. He’s fitting in nicely, he has been in and out doing a few bits of scrummaging, not full eight-on-eight stuff, and contact work with us this week. We’ll progress that.
‘A lot of this stuff, we have to see how he reacts to every change of level we put him through. He’s getting well managed, looks fit, looks big, looks scary. We’re delighted to have him back in next week, hopefully, for full training.’
The news of Snyman’s return will be a welcome relief to South African fans who have had to contend with multiple injuries to key Springboks (particularly in the second row).
As preparations continue for the upcoming British & Irish Lions series, RG Snyman will undoubtedly be an important part of Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber’s plans.
