Captain Philip Snyman says the Blitzboks are happy with how they finished their Sevens World Cup campaign in San Francisco.
After commanding wins against Ireland and Scotland, the Blitzboks slumped to a 29-7 defeat to England in their semi-final. However, the team bounced back to claim a 24-19 victory over arch-rivals Fiji in the third-place playoff.

Snyman said that despite the defeat to England, the Blitzboks were pleased to finish their 2017-18 season on a high.
‘We wanted to finish the season with a performance to remember and we did that,’ Snyman said. ‘There is no way to sugar coat the defeat against England – we were outplayed. They were smarter than us and we played their game, not ours.
‘The way we responded against Fiji was the ideal end to the season. We cannot wait to get back home and spend some time with the families and loved ones, but also to return to South Africa with a smile on our face and a medal around our necks.’
The bronze medal was the best finish at a Sevens World Cup since 1997, when South Africa claimed silver.
