Colin Slade edged Marnitz Boshoff in the battle of the flyhalves at Ellis Park, but neither flyhalf enjoyed a particularly good day, writes MARK KEOHANE.
Slade was the more active of the two in the first hour but his contribution was a mixed bag. He kicked two penalties and missed two. He did one good thing and one ineffective thing. He was brave but he was not imposing.
Boshoff was never in the game. He did not get a penalty kick at posts until the 48th minute and then missed. He didn't get another penalty kick again.
He tried to make something out of nothing on attack and threw an intercept pass to Ryan Crotty that resulted in a try that was overruled when referred to the TMO. From the subsequent scrum the Crusaders scored.
Boshoff also turned over the ball at 13-7 with the Lions on the attack and just a few metres from the Crusaders tryline.
