Sharks bolster scrumhalf stocks

The Sharks have announced the signing of three players – including two scrumhalves – ahead of the 2017 Currie Cup campaign.

Kings duo, scrumhalf Louis Schreuder and flank Tyler Paul, and Montpellier No 9 Cameron Wright have all signed two-year contracts with the Durban-based union. Wright played for the Sharks before moving to France in 2015.

Coach Robert du Preez says that while the Sharks' core emphasis is to retain home-grown talent by signing the best juniors in the province, the trio will add a wealth of experience to the Sharks' structures.

'Louis Schreuder brings with him a wealth of experience and with the loss of Cobus Reinach to Northampton, Schreuder, together with Michael Claassens, will shepherd the scrumhalf responsibilities and provide the necessary mentorship and guidance to our emerging scrumhalves at the franchise,' said Du Preez.

'After a short stint in France which has aided his personal development, Cameron makes a welcome return home. He understands our unique culture and team values and everyone is excited to have him back home.'

Of the acquisition of Paul, Du Preez said: 'His work ethic and drive makes him a perfect fit for our team and we are confident that his move to Durban will prove to be beneficial for both the player’s personal development and for our team.'
