Ireland flyhalf Johnny Sexton is ahead of All Blacks duo Richie McCaw and Dan Carter in World Rugby’s Player of the Decade voting polls.
World Rugby is running a fan vote to decide the player of the decade, with the nominees made up of all the players who won the Player of the Year award from 2011 to 2020.
World Rugby updated the results on Twitter saying Ireland’s Jonathan Sexton, who was crowned Player of the Year in 2018, currently leads voting with 22%.
McCaw, Carter and fellow All Blacks Beauden Barrett, Kieran Read, Brodie Retallick, along with former French captain Thierry Dusautoit and Springbok Pieter-Steph du Toit are all also up for the award.
When World Rugby revealed the top three contenders in each awards category after five days of voting, the All Blacks’ official Twitter account urged their fans to get behind their players.
‘Wow … come on All Blacks fans, you gotta do something about this,’ they tweeted.
